“I have never come across a piece of land so ideally suited for the building of a golf course,” said Arnold Palmer.
Tralee Golf Course was his first Irish endeavour and it opened in 1984; it’s a rugged and exhilarating creation. Now, let’s be honest, Kerry is a very special county, the “Lake District” of Ireland, an unspoilt, quiet and romantic place. Surely anybody could design a golf course in these surroundings? Arnold Palmer designed a course that will stimulate the senses every bit as much as the enchanting and breathtaking scenery. The combination and variety of the holes makes the entire experience captivating and exciting. There are only a few courses that grab your attention from the first tee shot, keeping hold of it until the very last putt drops.

This unique site location ensures a complete and unspoilt visual and audible environment—affording a unique tranquillity that is unmatched in golf. The towering dune-land, and the genial course layout assures that each hole is set apart from one another, while the natural dune flora frames the fairways and greens with pictorial and sensory delight. The Irish Hare is the most noticeable inhabitant of the links, and sits proudly as the course emblem . There is a course length for every standard of golfer, and the firm links turf, combined with natural sea-breezes, will inspire to create a full range of golf shots. Each hole possesses its own collection of challenges and vistas, but what sets Waterville apart—there are no blind shots—what you see, is what you get.

GOLF AT BALLYBUNION OLD COURSE
Monday
4th September
Full Irish Breakfast at your hotel.
Depart Killarney and continue to Clare via Ballybunion and Ferry.
Golf: Ballybunion: Old Course
The “home” of golf is across the Irish Sea, but its soul surely lies at Ballybunion Golf Club Old Course in County Kerry Ireland! No other course in the British Isles combines such spectacular golf with holes that are still fun and playable for the average golfer as does the incomparable and famous Old Course at Ballybunion. Challenge the corner of the cemetery on the first, and give new meaning to “do or die”. Work you way out to the sea and Ballybunion Golf Club’s roller-coaster 11th, tumbling 3 tiers along the cliffs.
This incredible par-4 is nothing less than the finest hole on earth. Climb to the Ballybunion Golf Club’s 17th tee, the tallest dune on the Old Course, where a bench with “CTH” inscribed on it sits. This is in honour and memory of a popular deceased member who used to stand there and remark “this is the Closest To Heaven I’m ever going to get!”. It is thought that Ballybunion Golf Club Old Course might well be the closest to heaven as a golfer can get on this earth. It is simply sensational, and can’t be missed on a golf tour of Ireland.

GOLF AT LAHINCH GOLF CLUB
Tuesday
5th September
Full Irish Breakfast at your hotel.
Private return transfer to Lahinch Golf Club.
Golf: Lahinch Golf Course
At Lahinch Golf Club, that wonderful relic in Lahinch, County Clare, a broken barometer with the message “See Goats” hangs outside the clubhouse. In days gone by, the thought was that weather forecasting was not necessary, since the goats that roamed the Lahinch course headed towards shelter of the clubhouse area when they sensed an oncoming tempest. Speaking of course, Lahinch Golf Club was revamped at the turn of the 21st Century with some incredible new holes, while others have been restored to their MacKenzie roots, and the result is truly world-class. Only the classic Klondyke and Dell holes remained unchanged from the original Lahinch Golf Club design, but rightfully so that they remain. These holes date back to the late 1800’s and the original Old Tom Morris layout (Alister MacKenzie redesigned in 1927) – they are “as precious as yeast to Guinness!”
NON-GOLFERS: Visit to the Cliffs of Moher
Evening: By Own Arrangements
GOLF AT DOONBEG GOLF LINKS

6th September
Full Irish Breakfast at your hotel
Golf: Doonbeg Golf Links
The world renowned 18-hole championship course at Trump International Golf Links & Hotel™ Doonbeg, spans 1.5 miles of crescent shaped beach and century old sand dunes along Doughmore Bay. The County Clare, Ireland golf course was officially opened in 2002 and immediately earned the prestigious title of Golf Digest’s Best New International Course. In 2010, Trump International Doonbeg was awarded European Golf Resort of the Year by the IAGTO. As early as 1892, officers of the Scottish Black Watch Regiment considered Doonbeg an ideal setting for links golf Ireland. Since then Trump Doonbeg has been transformed by Dr. Martin Hawtree to one of the ‘must play’ golf courses on the international circuit.
Every hole has its own identity which will both reward and challenge each golfer. Offering views of the Atlantic from 16 of 18 holes, the average time taken for a round of golf is four hours and thirty minutes. Designed with the philosophy of ‘least disturbance’, the most natural route was taken in laying the course out through the sand dunes.

GOLF AT PORTSTEWART GOLF COURSE
Saturday
9th September
An exhilarating golf course set amidst imposing, gigantic sand dunes with panoramic views across the Atlantic mount of Lough Foyle to the Inishowen peninsula beyond. The Strand is an incredibly challenging and thoroughly enjoyable golf course. It was the host for the 2017 Dubai Duty Free Irish Open. Jon Rahm, the 2017 Winner was certainly impressed, “The golf course is amazing. It’s probably one of the most beautiful golf courses I have ever seen, if not the most”.
There is a plethora of great holes at Portstewart; especially memorable are two of the new par threes, the 3rd and the 6th. The 3rd is a challenging single “shotter”, measuring 207 yards, whilst the 6th, measuring a mere 140 yards with a plateau green, is also a tough cookie and will stay in the mind for a long time. Entering the Top 100 for the first time in 2019, the course is now rated as the third best in the country behind two absolute world-beaters, Royal County Down and Royal Portrush.
After Golf we will transfer to Dublin.

GOLF AT PORTMARNOCK CHAMPIONSHIP GOLF COURSE
Sunday
10th September
Full Irish Breakfast at your hotel
Golf: Portmarnock GC
Ranked No 3 in the country and No 1 in the Irish Republic there’s no doubt that this course is one of the standard bearers of Irish golf. This traditional links may not have the same instant appeal as some of the dune courses of Ireland’s west coast but the routing – which changes direction on every hole – and the subtle ripples and undulations combine to create a supreme test from start to finish.
This iconic course has hosted the best players in the world, from Arnold Palmer to Tiger Woods. Exposed to the elements, Portmarnock provides a true test of golf in its fairest form. The challenge presented to each and every golfer is evident from start to finish, consistently providing options to the golfer as to how they attack the hole. It is still the Republic’s premier championship course.
“One of the most enjoyable links courses I have had the opportunity to play. ”
~ Tiger Woods
