If Kananaskis is about horizontal scale, Silvertip Resort in Canmore is about verticality. Designed by Les Furber and opened in 1997, Silvertip is built on the south-facing benchlands of Mount Lady Macdonald. The course is characterized by its severe elevation changes—over 600 feet of vertical variance throughout the round—and its dramatic views of the Three Sisters peaks.
Silvertip represents a "target golf" philosophy pushed to its limit. The terrain is rugged, with fairways often sloping severely, requiring players to aim away from the center to hold the short grass. It is an Audubon International Cooperative Sanctuary, emphasizing environmental stewardship amidst the luxury real estate development that surrounds it.
