La Torre Golf Course forms part of the Nicklaus Golf Trail in Murcia. Designed by Jack Nicklaus and opened in 2006, it is a relatively short par-68 layout but one that places a premium on strategy. The course features more than five hectares of bunkers that separate many of the holes and thick, high-fescue rough around those bunkers that accentuates the wind effect. Wide fairways weave around several lakes and are lined by palm trees and pristine whitewashed villas; therefore the course offers an inviting vista from the tee while still demanding careful shot-placement. Golfers are encouraged to pick the correct line off the tee and often to lay up rather than attack, because the course presents dense grass around bunkers and water hazards that punish errant shots.
Though the yardage is modest, La Torre challenges players with its firm playing surfaces and numerous dog-legs. Golf holidays reviewers describe it as ideal for mid- and high-handicap golfers while still testing from the back tees. The course winds through the resort community, so visitors will notice the Mediterranean-style apartments and hotels that line the fairways.
