Ask the Expert: Presidents Cup 2019

With over 20 years of golfing experience, Teed Up Golf Tours’ Director of Golf, Michael (Mike) Mosher, sits down to share his insights on this year’s Presidents Cup in Melbourne.

Mike has extensive golfing experience and has been rated a AAA golf professional for the last 15 years. Mike is also a multi-awarded PGA Golf Professional playing not only throughout Australasia, but also in Canada and Japan.

The Presidents Cup started back in 1994, and we asked Mike what his fondest memories are of it.

“By far my best memories are of 1998 at Royal Melbourne where we won, but it was the way we did that I remember most…Greg Norman was in his prime and I still remember the crowds and the euphoria. I also remember Craig Parry chipping in to win.”

We’ve hosted it twice before in Australia, with both the Americans and the International team winning on each occasion – how will we as a host nation and the course itself ensure a smooth and exciting tournament?

“I think like last time, it will be an amazing sporting event and one not to missed!”

Let’s talk about your thoughts on the US Team…

“As in Ryder Cup matches, the US look unbeatable! However, Royal Melbourne might even it up a little, and let’s hope we get an Aussie as a Captain’s pick.”

And who are the ones to watch in the International Team?

“Ernie is Captain and he will be a great motivator having played in these before. I think Mark Leishman will thrive in this event, and I would be watching him all day.”

What can fans expect see at The Royal Melbourne Golf Course? And for those who aren’t familiar with Melbourne, Victoria, what makes this a great place to host such a prestigious tournament?

“They can pretty much expect atmosphere like they have never seen before!”

Melbourne really is the home of Australian Golf. with the Famous Sandbelt and so many great courses on it. The city will be pumping with overseas visitors and that makes for great fun.

Unlike the FedEx Cup, the Presidents Cup has no purse or prize money and the winnings are donated to charities of their choice. Your thoughts on this?

“I love this – not many sports do it.”

Who’s going to win, the USA Team or the International Team?

“It’s going to be close, and I’m hoping the Internationals get over the line by 1 point!”

Will Tiger pick himself to play?

“I hope he does; it will make the event unbelievable and even bigger. Apparently, he will ask the other players, and I think they will say yes, so if that happens, look for a huge week!”
